The Hyattsville Justice Center consists of a 54,000 s.f. public safety facility, major public plazas and parks, a parking structure and renovations to the adjacent County Services Building.
Program requirements included meeting rooms, classrooms, darkrooms, a laboratory and a library, as well as other typical police facility design concerns, including sallyport entry and internal security.
Also included are indoor weapons ranges, weapons training and maintenance facilities, administrative areas, extensive communications facilities, vehicle maintenance area, and personnel training areas.
In the same building, but entirely separated for security reasons, are a 24-hour prison processing facility and a 100-person pre-release detention center. The prisoner processing area is for multiple jurisdiction police forces to hold prisoners up to 24 hours prior to arraignment time.
This facility is divided for men, women, and juveniles. The 100-person pre-release facility houses male and female prisoners in the last 90 days of their sentence. It contains facilities for alcohol and psychology rehabilitation classes, recreation areas, residential and dining facilities.
