Deerfield Elementary School
|
Deerfield Elementary SchoolThe Edgewood School District is located north of the Edgewood area of the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford County. The complex consists of three schools with integrated campuses including Edgewood High School, Edgewood Middle School, and Deerfield Elementary School. The proposal was to construct entirely new facilities for the high school and elementary school and improve the entire complex’s parking, access, and athletic facilities. The existing high school and elementary school needed to be able to function as the new schools were constructed. Athletic facilities are shared by all three schools with pedestrian linkages to the fields and between the buildings. The 2-story, 101,500 s.f. Deerfield Elementary School is designed for a student capacity of 793. A single story element runs across the front of the building which creates a building approach whose scale is inviting and appropriate for smaller children. This single story element houses the main entry, administrative and health areas, Pre-Kindergarten (with their own separate entry), and student services. A 2-story academic area that runs along the southern side of the building, houses grades K-5, media, and academic support spaces. A “Main Street” corridor separates academic areas from public areas, limiting access when used by the community after school hours. |
