Bowie Police Station

Bowie, Maryland

The new Bowie Police Station will share an 80,000 square foot building with a new Bowie City Hall. The building and 6.2-acre site development are being designed for LEED Silver Certification.

A new Civic Plaza creates a sense of arrival and a sense of place with a mix of green landscape and earth toned paving (not asphalt) that warmly greets visitors. The new building prominently welcomes visitors into its glass lobby that serves as a metaphor for the accessibility and transparency of local City government.

Visitors to the Police Department will be guided directly from the Civic Plaza to a separate entrance to the Police Department on the lower level. There is also a separate entrance for police staff and a vehicular sallyport entrance for police vehicles.

The Police Department will be a state-of-the-art, full-service, 24/7 facility. The design includes public areas, secure police areas, and very secure police areas. The public areas includes a lobby, an interview room, and a community/training room.

Included in the "secure" Police areas are the various departments within the force: administrative offices, detectives, patrol sergeants, dispatchers, records, personnel, staff support areas, lockers, rest rooms, and a fitness room.

Included in "very secure" areas of the Police Station are the sallyport, temporary holding rooms, interview rooms, evidence processing, evidence and property storage, and the armory.
